Issawi – Abdul-Mahdi discuss govt. formation crisis
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The leader of Al-Iraqiya Bloc, Rafi’a al-Issawi, and the leader in the National Alliance, Adel Abdu-Mahdi, have discussed on Saturday the current negotiations among the political blocs that won the nationwide elections held in March, in a bid to get out of the current crisis for the formation of the new Iraqi government, according to a statement by Issawi’s office. “Both leaders have discussed a network of problems, issues and initiatives, aimed at shaking the current stalling in talks and negotiations among the parliamentary blocs, The attempt is to find a resolution for the crisis of assigning a new prime minister, naming his cabinet, according to parliamentary articles and election rights,” the statement pointed out. “We have noticed a close relationship in viewpoints and ideas that may put things in their suitable position, taking into consideration the significance of forming a national government, to guarantee the overcoming of obstacles and mistakes that have frozen the dossiers of security, economy and services, in the previous sectarian governments that ruled the country after 2003,” it added. The political area is witnessing continued differences among the large blocs in March elections, following the close results they scored and their competition for the prime minister‘s post and the formation of the future government, especially among the two main blocs that won the largest number of parliament seats – Al-Iraqiya bloc, led by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi and the State of Law bloc, led by outgoing Prime Minister, Nouri Al-Maliki.
