UN envoy’s convoy attacked in Najaf

NAJAF / IraqiNews.com: The convoy of UN Representative to Iraq, Ed Melkert, was attacked on Tuesday by a bomb blast in Najaf after meeting Shiite cleric Sayyid Ali al-Sistani. “A roadside bomb went off targeting Melkert’s convoy near the Technical Institute in al-Manazra district, southern Najaf,” one of his companions told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The explosion killed a policeman and injured two more,” he added. “Melkert paid a visit to Najaf today to meet Sayyid Ali al-Sistani on the government formation crisis,” he said.
