Precautionary Measures on postal packages in Baghdad Airport

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq’s Interior Ministry’s Undersecretary, Hussein Kamal, has stated on Wednesday that his Ministry had taken precautionary measure to check packages entering and coming out of Baghdad International Airport to avoid security violations. “The Interior Ministry has taken some precautionary measures, especially against packages entering and getting out of Baghdad International Airport after the spread of reports about explosive packages entering European airports, in order to avoid any security violations in this respect,” Kamal told IraqiNews.com News Agency. He stressed that “the Airport’s security director is in direct contact, round the clock, with the information agency,” adding that “the Baghdad International Airport is of high significance and in the event of any bad thing happening in the airport would lead to its close and to seriously isolate Iraq from the world at large; that is why the airport’s security occupies full priority.” “Few days ago, we attended a meeting with the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister, discussing the issue of such packages, followed with taking a series of precautionary measures to avoid any violations inside and outside the airport, along with the areas surrounding it,” he said. Iraq’s Transport Minister, Amer Abdul-Jabbar, had stated recently that his Ministry “had no fears from air trips coming from the Yemeni capital of Sanaa,” in the background of the Yemen authorities confiscation of 26 packages last Saturday to check their contents, one day after a U.S. announcement of finding two postal packages sent from Yemen on their way to a Jewish Synagogue in Chicago in the United States.
