Delta base in Kut comes under rocket attack

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: The U.S. Delta military base came under Katyusha rocket attacks on Saturday but there was no word whether the assault left casualties or losses, a police source in Wassit said. “Unidentified gunmen fired two Katyusha rockets in the direction of the Detla military base of the U.S. forces, (7 km) western al-Kut city,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Policemen rushed to the rocket firing site in the peripheries of al-Ahrar district, (25 km) western Kut, in an attempt to arrest the assailants,” he added. No official comments were made by the U.S. forces in the base to explain whether the rockets caused damage or casualties. The Delta base is the only headquarters of the U.S. forces after all military sites were handed over to the Iraqi side in a step to implement the items of the status-of-forces agreement (SOFA). The base is expected to be handed over to the Iraqi forces in 2011. Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad. AmR (P) 2
