Al-Iraqiya Alliance to settle its contribution in government in two days

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A leading member in Al-Iraqiya Alliance, led by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, has announced on Sunday that his Alliance would settle the issue of its contribution in the new government during the forthcoming two days. “Al-Iraqiya has not reached for an agreement on its participation in the next government till this moment,” Zuheir al-Aaraji told IraqiNews.com News Agency, adding that “A number of meetings are expected to take place by the leaders of our Alliance, during the forthcoming two days, in which the settlement word will be taken by al-Iraqiya.” al-Aaraji, meanwhile, has denied news reports that Al-Iraqiya leader, Usama al-Nujeify had accepted a certain post in the future government, saying: “Nujeify has been one of the most rejectionist persons to participate in a government, to be led by (outgoing Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki), and there can’t be a contradicting viewpoint, regarding his occupation of a certain post.” The different Iraqi political alliances are expected to define their final positions in a parliament session, expected to convene next Thursday, at a time when talks to convince al-Iraqiya to participate in the future government on basis of its occupation of the post of Chairman of the National Council for Strategic Policies or either of two positions of the parliament speaker or the president, as well as attending the parliament session, in order to prevent other alliances (the National Alliance or the Kurdistan Blocs Alliance)’s position to head towards forming a majority government. Al-Aaraji also said that “al-Iraqiya Alliance has presented a reform paper to all political blocs who had attended the recent meetings, out of which 80% had been achieved..What remains is the Law on Questioning & Justice and the Independence of the Judiciary, as well as the prime minister’s authorities and the participation in taking decisions, and the apparent sending of the said paper to the meeting of leaders, in response to (Kurdistan President, Massoud) Barzani’s initiative in Arbil.” SKH/SR 1
