Melkert highlights “important achievements” in govt. forming

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Iraq, Ad Melkert highlighted in a statement on Saturday “important achievements by the Iraqi political powers in forming the new government,” congratulating Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on the occasion of his re-election. A statement by the UN Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) received by IraqiNews.com news agency said Melkert highly appreciated all efforts exerted by the Iraqi parties and their leaderships to reach agreements under full Iraqi sovereignty. The statement voiced Melkert’s appreciation for the valuable participation by the President of Kurdistan Region Massoud Barazani in the process of negotiations through  his call for the meeting of the Iraqi political powers held in Arbil early this week. The statement reiterated Melkert’s calls on all parties to join hands together and look forward to a quick agreement on a government platform that can help the attain the higher interests of the Iraqi people.
