Security alert in Talafar after car bomb tip-off

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi forces in the western Mosul district of Talafar are on security alert and imposed tight measures on Thursday evening after receiving tip-offs on a car bomb that would target gatherings of local residents, a senior police official in Ninewa said. “The Iraqi forces tightened measures and cut off some main roads under a security alert to search for the alleged bomber,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. He appealed to local residents to avoid being in large groups. An improvised explosive device (IED) had gone off on Wednesday evening in al-Orouba neighborhood, central Talafar, leaving a civilian man wounded. Ali Awsat Mohammed, the chairman of the Talafar local council’s security committee, had told IraqiNews.com that security breaches in the district indicate frail intelligence activities, calling on security forces to be vigilant and cautious. Mosul, the capital city of the violence-stricken province of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
