Interior Ministry official nominated for Minister’s post

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq’s National Alliance has nominated the Interior Ministry‘s Inspector-General for the post of the Interior Minister in the new cabinet, according to a source close to the current discussions to form the government. Al-Iraqiya Bloc, led by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, is experiencing differences towards its candidate for the new vice-president’s post the source also noted. “The Interior Ministry‘s Inspector-General, Uqeil al-Tureihy, is the leading candidate to occupy the Interior Minister‘s post in the new government, due to the nature of his current post in the Ministry and his following up of its activity on both positive and passive levels,” the source, who requested anonymity, told IraqiNews.com news agency on Wednesday. “Al-Iraqiya Bloc is facing differences towards its candidate for the new vice-president’s post between outgoing Vice-President, Tareq al-Hashimy and the Chairman of the National Dialogue Front, Saleh al-Mutlaq, following close agreement on the Foreign Minister’s post, now held by Hoshiar Zibary, to be given to the Kurds,” the source pointed out. The same source also said that the new Defense Minister’s post would be held by al-Iraqiya Bloc, according to the current speculations. Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, has demanded the nomination of experienced and independent personalities to select them for cabinet posts. SKH/SR 1
