Tight security measures in Wassit as U.S. soldier dies

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: Tight security measures have been adopted in Wassit as U.S. soldier was killed by a sniper, a police source said on Thursday. “Security forces have intensified their deployment since yesterday in al-Nuaamaniya district, north of Kut,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Police and army forces deployed on the main roads, in addition to searching operations for a number of suspects,” he explained. “The deployment has been made in coordination between Wassit police and the 32nd brigade of the 8th division of the Iraqi army.” An unknown sniper shot a soldier belongs to the U.S. Provincial Reconstruction Team in al-Nuaamaniya district. The man died later of wounds. Kut, the capital of Wassit, is 180 km southeast of Baghdad. SH (P)/SR 19
