Sinjar fuel station blaze leaves 2 killed, 1 wounded

DUHUK / IraqiNews.com: Two were killed and another severely burnt when a fire broke out in a local fuel station in Sinjar district on Friday, according to an official. “The fire erupted in a private fuel station in the area of al-Shohadaa neighborhood, in the central part of Sinjar, (120 km) west of Mosul city, leaving two workers killed and another seriously burnt,” Mayor Dakheel Qassem Hassoun told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The incident took place due to poor safety precautions during the use of the power generator in the station as its sparks caused the fire,” he added. Hassoun noted that attempts to save the two workers failed as they already died by the time the fire was put out, adding the burnt third worker was rushed to the hospital for treatment. “The station was also severely damaged,” he said, not giving further details. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 316
