Islamic Education, Sciences & Culture Organization hails Iraq’s plan to consider Najaf capital for Islamic Culture:

BAGHDAD – IraqiNews.com: The Islamic Education, Sciences & Culture Organization (IESCO)  has highly assessed Iraq‘s plan to consider Iraq‘s holy city of Najaf as “capital for Islamic Culture in the year 2012,” the Director-General of the Iraqi Culture Ministry’s Cultural Relations Office, Aqil al-Mandalawi said on Saturday. “IESCO’s Consultative Council has highly assessed Iraq‘s consideration of Najaf as capital for theIslamic Culture in the year 2012, in its current meeting held in Rabat now,” Mandalawi told IraqiNews.com news agency. Mandalawi pointed out that the said Organization “had considered the above step as part of its efforts to restore the cultural position of Iraq that possesses a great cultural heritage and an ancient culture.” He said he had informed IESCO’s Consultative Council that “the plan, laid down by his Ministry, in cooperation with Najaf‘s Provincial Council, for financial allocations to develop and build modern hotels and halls, as well as the rehabilitation of the city’s cultural and heritage centers, encourage its writers, print books about the city, etc.” Iraq had participated in the meetings of IESCO’s 10th Consultative Council, held in the Moroccan Capital of Rabat, held from Dec. 24 to Dec. 25.
