Iran’s Foreign Minister in Najaf to meet Sistani

NAJAF / IraqiNews.com: Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Akbar Salihi has arrived in southwest Iraq’s holy city of Najaf on Thursday to meet the Supreme Shiite Religious Authority, Sayid Ali al-Sistani, a Najaf Council’s media source said. “Iran’s Foreign Minister, Ali Akbar Salihi, has arrived in Najaf City this morning (Thursday), where he paid a visit to Imam Ali Bin Abi-Taleb’s ?Shrine and then headed to the residence of the Supreme Religious Authority, to meet with Sayid Ali al-Sistani. He is schedule to hold a press conference after his visit,” the media source said. Iran’s Foreign Minister, Ali Akbar Salihi, arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday on a first visit of its type since he took over his post from Iran’s Foreign Minister. He was born in the holy city of Karbala, lived in northern Baghdad’s Kadhimiya city and he speaks Arabic fluently. Salihi’s visit, during which he conferred with Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani, Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki and Foreign Minister, Hoshiar Zibari, is taking place within the current efforts to boost bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries and means to settle the pending border issues between both countries.
