QRD arrests 16 gunmen involved in Karbala bombings

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: Quick Response Department of the Interior Ministry managed on Tuesday to arrest 16 gunmen, believed to be responsible for the bombings that targeted Shiite visitors in Karbala on Monday, commander of the QRD said. “Acting on a tip-off, QRD forces arrested the group that implemented the attacks by car bombs on Monday in eastern Karbala,” General Nuaaman Dakhel told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The group consists of 16 gunmen, including Abdullatief Aday, a local official in al-Askandariya district in Babel, north of Karbala,” he added. On Monday (Jan. 24), three car bombs exploded; two in al-Ibrahimiya region and one in al-Daaom in Karbala, killing 12 and injuring 163. Karbala is 108 km to the south of Baghdad. SH (TP) 1120
