Iraqi Kurdistan’s opposition movement calls for fighting corruption

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A leading member in north Iraq’s Kurdistan Goran (Change) opposition movement has stated on Monday that his movement supports pacification in Kurdistan Region.  “Such demands do not mean keeping silent towards corruption and the absence of social justice in the Kurdistan society,” he higlighted.  “The Goran (Change) Movement supports pacification, but this does not mean keeping silent towards corruption and absence of social justice in the Kurdistani society, and towards violations by the power parties on the properties of the state and the people in the Region,” Azad Chalaq told IraqiNews.com news agency.  “Pacification means to start real reforms, through actions and not words, whether inside the government or on the level of parties,” he underlined. Chalaq said that his “Change movement and the opposition as a whole demand lifting the Party’s hands from the government and that ministries and institutions play their real role in presenting services and contribute in the development of the Region.” Kurdistan’s Premier, Barham Saleh, has told IraqiNews.com on Sunday that “everybody supports the pacification of the situation, because there is necessity to unify the Kurdish ranks internally, in order to secure the future of the country,” pointing out that “the language of violence and threat won’t serve such goal, in any form.” Chalak, on his part, said that “the Change Movement and the opposition in general, demand liftting the hands of the ruling Party from the government, in order to allow ministries and institutions to play their active role in presenting services and share in the development programs of the Region,” charging that “the ruling parties are the owners of the decision in the Region, and not the government.” Such calls by the Kurdish Goran (Change) Movement, issued in a statement last week, had created a state of political tension among Kurdish political parties, due to it demand to dissolve the Kurdistan government and Parliament, among other demands.
