Allawi-Maliki meeting could be final to settle issue of National Council for Strategic Policies:

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The expected meeting between Iraq’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki and the Leader of al-Iraqiya Coallition, Iyad Allawi, could be final to settle the issue of the proposed National Council for Strategic Policies (NCSP), the official spokesman of al-Iraqiya Coalition said on Saturday. “The meeting between Maliki and Allawi is not expected to be the last meeting between them to reach joint national viewpojnts between both sides,” Shakir Kattab told IraqiNews.com news agency, adding that “the meeting can reach a final agreement towards differences regarding the NCSP.” Kattab said that “the joint meetings between both sides could lead to reach a joint action program to settle their differences,” calling for “meetings between Maliki and Allawi to settle the problem of the remaining cabinet posts, that are not filled yet, as well as the issue of the NCSP.” The NCSP‘s draft-law, presented by al-Iraqiya Coalition, was raised after the agreement on the formation of the new Iraqi cabinet, and the Council’s Chairman, according to the draft-law, enjoys rights, privileges and the personal position of the Prime Minister, granting him the right to appoint his deputy in the event of his absence for any reason. The draft-law grants its Chairman the authority to invite any leading official to attend the Council’s meetings, including the Chairman of the Legislating Council, the Chairman of the Federal Court, the cabinet ministers, as well as the Army Commands.
