Curfew slammed in Kut

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: The Wassit Operations Command announced on Wednesday a curfew throughout Kut after the recent demonstrations that hit the city, local police chief said. “The Wassit Operations Command decided on Wednesday (Feb. 16) to impose a curfew and a vehicle ban starting from 4:00 p.m. until further notice,” General Hussein Abdulhadi told IraqiNews.com news agency, noting that the decision came to maintain security in the province after acts of violence by some protestors, who damaged the Wassit council building and the governor’s house. Hundreds of protestors staged a demonstration today in front of the local council’s building, calling for improving services and holding corrupt officials accountable. Kut, the capital of Wassit, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.   SH (TP)/SR 522
