”National consensus on presence of mischief exists in Iraqi State,” VP says.

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com – Iraq ’s Vice-President, Tareq al-Hashimy, has said on Saturday that there is a “national consensus” on the existence of a “mischief in a number of Iraq ’s State institutions, especially in the dossiers of service and human rights.”   “There is a national consensus on the existence of mischief in a number of Iraq ’s State institutions, especially in the dossiers of services, human rights and financial corruption,” Hashimy said in a statement, copy of which landed in IraqiNews.com news agency.   The Iraqi Vice-President, the statement said had reaffirmed that “the mass media is playing a great role in pushing the wheel of reforms forward, as well as developing its activity and trend.” The statement quoted Hashimy, during a reception given to a number of journalists, had “reiterated necessity that journalists and media men enjoy freedom, supported by the constitution, without any limits.”   Hashemy, the statement pointed out, had also considered “the attacks that took place against Journalists during their coverage of Baghdad ’s Feb. 25 th demonstrations, as a retreat of democracy in Iraq .”   “Officials must settle the above issue in the nearest possible time and secure its non-repetition in the future,” calling for “opening chances for private and independent mass media, to develop the democratic process, covering protest activities and peaceful demonstrations, taking place according to the constitution and the law.”   RT / SKH 275
