MPs uninformed of Allawi’s nomination for Arab League’s Secretary-General

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com – The nomination of al-Iraqiya Bloc’s Leader, Iyad Allawi, for the post of the new Arab League’s Secretary-General was not officially announced to its members, its Legislature, Zuheir al-Aarajy said on Tuesday.   “Reports about nomination of al-Iraqiya Bloc’s Leader, Iyad Allawi, for the post of the Arab League’s Secretary-General, had been media reports only, because al-Iraqiya’s MPs were not officially informed about his nomination, despite fact that Dr. Allawi enjoys great respect by several Arab states,” Aaraji told IraqiNews.com news agency.   He said that Dr. Allawi “has gained high support by other Arab states and enjoys good relations with the Arab League’s member-states, being efficient to hold the said post, but we can’t confirm this report officially.”       Aaraji, in conclusion, expressed conviction that “all Iraqi political blocs hope that an Iraqi personality would hold the post of the Arab League’s Secretary-General.   The current Arab League’s Secretary-General’s post is now held by the outstanding Egyptian Diplomat, Amr Moussa, who is one of the candidates for the post of the new Egyptian President, to replace former President, Hosni Mubarak, who was sacked following an uprising against his regime last month.   SKH (TI)/SR 682
