Demo in Karbala against ‘Saudi interference’ in Bahrain

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: Hundreds of citizens staged on Wednesday a demonstration against what they termed as ‘the genocide’ against Bahraini people, calling Saudi forces to stop interfering in the Bahraini affair. “The protestors, including clerics and civil society organizations, chanted slogans against crimes perpetrated by the Bahraini regime against the people, who are protesting in a peaceful and civilized way,” Sheikh Abdulhassan al-Fourati, one of the protesters, told IraqiNews.com news agency. “They called Saudi forces to withdraw and stop interfering in Bahraini affairs, urging the Iraqi government to adopt a clear and firm stance against such barbarian behavior,” he added. The Bahraini forces on Wednesday forcefully dispersed protesters in Manama who had been camped out for days at the Pearl Roundabout. Troops also surrounded several hospitals to prevent injured people from accessing medical treatment. The Bahraini opposition said at least five protesters were killed. The protesters are demanding a new constitution that would move the country toward democracy, as well as the resignation of the prime minister, who was appointed in 1971.   SH (TP)/SR 412
