Attack on Iranian opposition camp must be dealt with in humanitarian fashion – legislature

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Chairman of the Iraqi Parliament’s Human Rights Committee has said on Sunday that his committee would take an official attitude towards the attack that took place against the Iranian opposition Mojahedin e-Khalq’s camp in northeast Iraq, calling for the be dealt with in a humanitarian manner.   “We are concerned with the rights of human beings and against shedding of human blood on Iraqi soil, under any justifications,” Salim al-Jiboury told IraqiNews.com news agency.   He stressed that it is important to deal with the issue under full humanitarian means, away from political effects, “because Iraq, according to international accords, must deal with the said organization as a refugee issue, towards which all means must be followed with it, according to legitimate mechanisms.”   “The (Iraqi) Parliament’s Human Rights Committee shall meet with its full membership during the forthcoming two days to take an official position towards the said issue,” he said.   “The use of arms and violence against (Mojahedin’s) Ashraf Camp as a regretful matter,” he noted.   An Iraqi military source told IraqiNews.com news agency last Friday that “3 members of the Iranian opposition Mojahedin e-Khalq organization had been killed and 13 others were injured, when a force of the Iraqi Army’s 5th Division tried to establish a security point inside Ashraf camp, comprising Iranian refugees.”   But a spokesman for Mojahedin el-Khalq organization said that 9 of its members had been killed, when an Iraqi Army force launched an attack on the camp, pointing out that the victims lost their lives when they confronted an attempt by an Iraqi force to break through the camp, where the organization’s elements were based.   SKH (TR)/SR 497
