Clashes renewed between security forces – demonstrators in Sulaimaniya

SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: Clashes have broken out again between security forces and demonstrators in Saray Square in north Iraq’s Kurdish city of Sulaimaniya on Tuesday. “Clashes have broken out between demonstrators and local security forces in central Sulaimaniya’s Saray Square, where the sound of bullet fire was heard,” IraqiNews.com news agency’s correspondent in the city reported. He quoted one of the demonstrators, who requested anonymity, as having told him, “We want to liberate the Saray Azadi area from the security forces that are spread around it.” Large numbers of security, police, anti-riot and Pesh-merga (Kurdish forces) elements broke through the Saray Square on Monday evening, where demonstrators have launched a sit-in demonstration since February 17th last. The demonstrators have stepped up their protest activities against the government of Kurdistan Region, blocking several main roads in Sulaimaniya. Security forces in the region’s capital city of Arbil foiled the beginning of a demonstration close to its Salah al-Din University on Monday morning.   SKH (TI)/SR 603
