Security forces break through demo in Sulaimaniya

SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: The security forces, the anti-riot police and Peshmerga forces, have broken through a demonstration heading towards the city’s main court building, in north Iraq’s Kurdish city of Sulaimaniya city on Tuesday, eyewitnesses said. “Large forces, representing the security, anti-mob and Peshmerga, have broken through a demonstration, heading towards the city’s main court, in order to prevent them launch a sit-in demonstration in front the court’s building,” the eyewitnesses told IraqiNews.com reporter in the city. They added that the said forces had arrested a number of demonstrators, including some activists. Clashes took place between the security forces and demonstrators in Saray Square in central Sulaimaniya early in the day, where the demonstrators had launched a sit-in demonstration since Feb. 17th last. Noteworthy is that the demonstrators had stepped up their protest activities against the government of Kurdistan Region, blocking a number of streets in Sulaimaniya city, whilst the security forces had managed to foil a demonstration close to Salah al-Din University in Arbil, the capital of Kurdistan Province on Monday.   SKH (TI)/SR 843
