Minister Threatens to Resign, High Ranking Delegation to Visit Kuwait This Week

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi Minister of Transport threatened to resign if the Greater Fao Port will not be completed, calling the central government to allocate necessary funds, otherwise “the non-implementation of the project is a treason for Iraq and the coming generations”. On the other hand, Iraq will send this week a high ranking delegation from foreign and transport ministries, in addition to Iraqi Maritime Authority to Kuwait to follow up how Iraqi national territorial waters will be affected by the Greater Mobarak Port, Iraqi government announced. Minister of State and government spokesman Ali Al-Dabbagh said in Baghdad today that “any establishment to be made by Kuwait should not affect our maritime lines or trade, which matter is supported by international rules in resolution 833. “Resolution 833 stipulated the right to Iraqi ships passage in the  Khor area without determining which half of it”, he said. Dabbagh added that “the Iraqi government will take the necessary measures if this right misused”. He stressed on 17 May that the Iraqi government formed a high ranking delegation, in coordination with the United Nations, to visit Kuwait and check the matter there.  RM (TS)/SR  700
