PUK celebrates 36th anniversary

SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: North Iraq’s Kurdistan Region’s Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has held a big celebration in Sulaimaniya city on Wednesday for the 36th anniversary of its foundation, with the presence of its Leader, Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani. “36 years ago, under difficult political circumstances, the Kurds and Kurdistan faced a fascist plan, which followed the 6 May Agreement, signed between Iraq and Iran in Algeria, that led to the August Revolution,” a PUK Political Bureau statement said on the occasion of PUK’s anniversary. “Our Homeland, Nation, Society, Language, Culture, and even our history and our ideals, were exposed to threats from the (former ruling Baath) regime’s Arabisation policies, that imposed displacement, spoilt the life of Kurdistan people, that was followed by the establishment of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan,” it said. “On this occasion, we reaffirm that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, being a great and responsible force, is the welcome house for all fighters and faithful people,” the statement concluded.   SKH (TI)/SR 662
