Al-Iraqiya does not intend to withdraw from political process – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Two Legislatures, representing the National and the Kurdistan Coalitions have confirmed on Sunday that al-Iraqiya Bloc, led by Iyad Allawi, does not intend to withdraw from the political process.   The statement of the two legislatures took place following reports that the Leaders of al-Iraqiya Coalition held a meeting to discuss the recent developments of the political situation, following the recent conflict between al-Iraqiya and the State of Law Coalitions, and the absence of positive signs to end their crisis.   The National Coalition’s Legislature, Khalid al-Assady, told IraqiNews.com news agency that “al-Iraqiya Coalition won’t withdraw from the political process and shall continue its links with the government of national-partnership”   “We do differentiate between the statements of al-Iraqiya Leader, Iyad Allawi and al-Iraqiya’s participation in the political process, hence we are waiting for the Coalition’s official position, which I think shall continue its linking to the political process and the government of national-partnership,” Assady said.   Al-Iraqiya Coalition’s Leader, Iyad Allawi, had launched a strong attack on Friday against the Leader of al-Daawa Party, Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, charging him with “lying, hypocrisy and deception,” and depending on the foreigner and Iran to become prime minister.   Meanwhile, the Kurdistan Coalition’s Legislature, Mahmoud Othman, has said that “the brothers in al-Iraqiya Coalition have confirmed to us that they don’t intend to withdraw, neither from the government, nor from the political process, and they would announce their official attitude in the Parliament’s session today (Sunday).   “In the event of al-Iraqiya’s withdrawal from the political process, such a step shall harm the political process,” Othman said, adding that “all political parties are against the transformation of al-Iraqiya Coalition to the opposition, thing that shall expose its members for follow-ups and detentions, due to their supposed practicing of an opposition activity.”   SKH (TF)/SR 454
