Special monitoring devices to watch Iraq’s Euphrates River, lakes, via satellite

ANBAR / IraqiNews.com: Special modern monitoring devices have been set up in Anbar city of west Iraq’s Anbar Province to monitor the levels of the Euphrates River and lakes via satellites, Director of Falluja’s Dams Departments said on Saturday.   “Modern devices have been set up to monitor the level of water in Euphrates River and lakes, through the use of satellites, being part of the activities to improve and rehabilitate the dams in Anbar’s cities, under the observation of engineering and technical committees,” Engineer Nouri Abbas told IraqiNews.com news agency.   The “said devices were set up in different areas on the Euphrates River, as well as the Habbaniya, Tharthar Lakes and the Haditha Dam, to send information about their water levels via satellites to a special office in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad,” the Iraqi official added.    “The work of the said devices shall contribute in informing the related bodies about the draught, floods or the level of water in any of part of the Euphrates River or lakes in Anbar’s cities and to study any serious case that might occur due to climate circumstances,” he said.   Ramadi, the center of Anbar province, is 110 km to the west of Baghdad.   SKH (TI)/SR 665
