Iraq’s President, Iran’s VP discuss economic relations, security, joint waters

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq ’s President Jalal Talabani has conferred in Baghdad on Wednesday night with the visiting Iranian 1 st Vice-President, Mohammed Reza Rahimi, a Presidential statement reported.   President Talabani had confirmed during the meeting that “stability and security would help to achieve a suitable platform for progress, prosperity and opens opportunity for investors and companies to contribute in Iraq ’s development, implementation of strategic and service projects, including Iranian companies and businessmen.”   “Talabani explained that support and assistance by Iran , being a neighborly state, will be very significant for strengthening security in Iraq ,” the statement said.   The statement pointed out that President Talabani had also discussed with Rahimi Iraq ’s relations with Iran and Turkey in the field of water, explaining the crisis caused by the water share, reaching Iraq and expressing hope that “cooperation by the Iranian friends would secure Iraq ’s share in the water reaching Iraq .”   The Iranian Vice-President, the statement said, had “expressed his country’s willingness to continue cooperation to help Iraq and the Iraqis to develop their country, expressing attention for Iraq ’s security and stability, in such a way that secures the safety and unity of its territories, reiterating Iran ’s support for Iraq in this respect.”   SKH (IT) 478
