Al-Iraqiya Coalition expects strong struggle within Coalition towards the Cabinet’s trimming

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A legislature in al-Iraqiya Coalition, led by Iyad Allawi, has expressed expectation on Tuesday that the trimming of the Iraqi Cabinet would cause a strong struggle inside his Coalition.   “If the Cabinet’s trimming takes place, I expect that a strong struggle would take place inside al-Iraqiya (Coalition), because all its members are keen on their ministers posts and party interests, and such a decision would undermine one political bloc for the benefit of another,” Talal al-Zobae told IraqiNews.com news agency.   He said that there were “huge challenges among the leaders of the blocs within al-Iraqiya Coalition, which is witnessing a huge struggle, being a struggle for leaderships.”   “The Cabinet’s trimming does not cover the current stage only, but the forthcoming stages, whilst any minister’s pension right had been confirmed by the Iraqi Constitution,” he added.   He stressed that al-Iraqiya Coalition “looks forward for a genuine participation in the decision-making and tries to participate in the security dossier and other strategic dossiers, supporting the Cabinet’s trimming, that shall cancel some ministries that don’t serve citizens, thus it is necessary to trim them down.”   Iraq ’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, had sent a demand to the Parliament on Sunday for the trimming down of his Cabinet from 43 to 29 ministries, for which the Parliament had agreed in its session on Monday to trim down the Cabinet in principle, postponing its final decision for its forthcoming sessions.   SKH (RT)
