US warplanes attack vehicle in east Amara

MISSAN / IraqiNews.com: U.S. warplanes have raided a vehicle, parked east of Amara, the center of southern Iraq’s Missan Province on Tuesday, the Chairman of Missan’s Security & Defense Committee reported on Wednesday.   “American warplanes on Tuesday night raided a pick-up vehicle, parked on a main street in Musharah township, 35 km to the east of Amara, completely destroying the vehicle, but causing no human casualties,” Sarhan al-Moussawi said. He added that his his committee has opened an investigation to learn the reasons behind the incident.   The Chairman of the Iraqi Parliament’s Security & Defense Committee, Hassan al-Suneid, had stated on Monday that a Committee had been formed to study “the American violations, especially in Hilla and Amara cities,” adding that the Committee would present its report on Thursday.   Amara, 390 km to the south of Baghdad, had witnessed U.S. air raids, using live ammunition, on Ufiya and Abu-Rummana districts in central Amara, which the U.S. Army believes that armed groups had fired rockets from them on the Buteira Military Airport, 5 km to the north of Amara.   The Security Agreement, signed between Baghdad and Washington in Nov. 2008, includes an article on the withdrawal of the American forces from all Iraqi ground, water and air spaces by Dec. 31 next, after the withdrawal of their combat troops from Iraqi cities and, townships and villages by June 30th of last year.   SKH (TR)/SR  772
