Appointment of U.S. Envoy for Iraq’s minorities, interference in its internal affairs, official says

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A Member of the Iraqi Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, Hassan Khudheir al-Hamdany, has said on Sunday that the U.S. appointment of an American Envoy to protect minorities in some countries, including Iraq , “represents an interference in the country’s internal affairs.”   The U.S. House of Commons has agreed recently on appointing a special envoy for human rights and protection of religious minorities in Egypt , Iraq , Pakistan and other Middle East and South Asian states, as the agreement had won a vast majority.   “We, as Iraqis, must demand the right of Iraq’s human beings, before everything else, due to what the American forces have done in Iraq and the passive impacts they had left among the Iraqi society in general,” Member of the Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, Hassan Khudhier al-Hamdany, told IraqiNews.com news agency.   Hamdany added that “the appointment of the said American envoy represents one of the means for interference in the internal affairs of Iraq , which enjoys a free government and sovereignty, and must enjoy respect and appreciation.”   “It is the duty of the Iraqi government to protect all its minorities, being the guardian of the Constitution, and if it fails in its duty, the people shall decide the mechanism of activity towards the government,” Hamdany said.   SKH (IT) 417
