Arrest warrant against Iraq’s former Trade Minister presented to Council of Ministers

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Parliament’s Integrity Commission has demanded the Council of Ministers to issue an arrest warrant against Iraq ’s former Acting Trade Minister, Safauddin al-Safi, an independent Legislature said on Monday.   Sabah al-Saedy told a news conference at the Parliament’s building, attended by IraqiNews.com news agency, that the Secretariat-General of the Council of Ministers “had not responded to the Integrity Commission’s demand till this date (Monday),” calling on the government to carry out reforms at the Supreme Judiciary Council.   “The Parliament’s Integrity Committee had sent a message to the Secretariat-General of the Council of Ministers, informing it about necessity to issue an arrest warrant against former Acting Trade Minister, Safauddin al-Safi, but despite fact that 11 days have passed on the date of the message, the Secretariat-General did not implement the arrest warrant,” Saedy said.   Saedy stressed that “The Prime Minister (Nouri al-Maliki) had attended the Parliament’s meeting 3 days ago, where he spoke about fighting corruption! .So, why doesn’t he fight corruption and arrest the corrupt ministers?”   “It seems the law is practiced against ordinary citizens only, and not against politicians,” Saedy said, adding that “the Supreme Judiciary Council needs real reforms, represented by sacking its Chairman, Mid’hat al-Mahmoud and its General Prosecutor, Ghadanfar al-Jassem.”   SKH (RT)   502
