General Amnesty Law threatens Iraqi national security – al-Askari

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The legislature from Iraq’s State of Law Alliance, Sami al-Askari, has described the draft General Amnesty Law, discussed by the Parliament on Sunday, as a “threat to the country’s national security, encouragement for corruption, protection of terrorists, killers and thieves!”   “The current Law does not differ at all from the previous law, according to which corruptors, criminals and leaders of terrorist groups have been released,” Askari told reporters.  “The new legislation in the law represents a threat to national security, encouragement of corruption, protection of terrorists, killers and thieves,” he noted.    Askari said that the “new law is the second of its kind to be passed by the Iraqi Parliament, as the Parliament passed an Amnesty Law in its previous session.”   The Parliament’s Legislative Committee on Sunday ended the 1st reading of the draft General Amnesty Law, aimed at granting opportunities for Iraqis, who had committed some crimes, to reform themselves and join social life. The law stems from the spirit of pardoning and reform for those who had gone astray to enjoy the amnesty. It was intended to enable all Iraqis to share in building their Homeland.   SKH (TI)/SR     441
