Egypt’s Azhar Sheikh – Kofi Anan, invited to attend Religious Conference in Najaf

NAJAF / IraqiNews.com: The Rector of Iraq’s Kufa University has said on Thursday that an invitation would be extended to the Sheikh (Leading Preacher) of Egypt ’s Muslim Azhar and the former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Anan, and about 300 international personalities, to attend an International Conference for Dialogue Among Religions, scheduled to convene in Iraq ’s holy city of Najaf next March.   “The University of Kufa shall hold an International Conference for Dialogue Among Religions next March, on the occasion of the announcement of Najaf as a Capital of the Islamic Culture in 2012,” Dr. Aqil Yassin told IraqiNews.com news agency.   “We shall extend invitations for about 300 International Personalities and to send delegations for famous researchers, who were chosen by the University to write researches and read them in the conference, that would be published in one book,” he said.   Dr. Yassin also said that invitations would be extended to “the former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Anan and the Sheikh of Azhar, who would be granted a PhD by the Islamic Fiqih Collage of Kufa University,” describing the Sheikh of Azhar as “one of the personalities, who had great contributions in the Islamic World, and it would be a great honor for Kufa University to grant him a PhD.”   The Kufa University was established in 1987, comprising 19 collages and more than 70 different sections, whilst the Fiqih Collage had been the first collage that was established in Najaf in 1958 and was abolished in a political decision in 1991.   Najaf is 160 km to the south of Baghdad .
