Iraq’s Faw town’s Mayor calls Kuwait to release 11 Iraqi fishermen

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: The Mayor of southern Iraq’s Faw town, Walid al-Sharify, has called on Kuwait to release 11 Iraqi fishermen it had detained in the Iraqi territorial waters on Friday.   “An Iraqi fishing boat, sailing in Iraq’s territorial waters in Khor-Abdullah area on Friday had been attacked by Kuwaiti Coastal guards and all fishermen on board the boat were taken to an unknown destination,” Sharify told IraqiNews.com news agency.   Sharify said: “this had not been the first time Iraqi fishermen were being beaten, abducted or detained by Kuwaiti Coastal guards,” demanding the immediate release of the said Iraqi fishermen.   The Iraqi al-Fadeela Legislature, Suzan al-Saad, had stated early on Saturday that “IraqKuwait relations have reached their worst stages nowadays,” pointing out that “a Kuwaiti patrol had attacked a group of Iraqi fishermen and abducted them, “in an act that reflected the aggressive position of the Kuwaiti Navy.” SKH (PT)  364
