New Secretary General for Mujahidi Khalq

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A new secretary general for anti-Iranian Mujahidi Khalq was elected today following the conclusion of its annual conference in Camp Ashraf, according to a statement issued by the organization.   The statement pointed out that the organization elected Mrs. Zahra Akhiani as the new secretary.   Camp Ashraf, located in Diala province, includes more that 3000 Iranians members of anti-Iran organization since it moved its headquarters to Iraq in 1985.   The camp, now called the New Iraq Camp, is protected by the Iraqi forces, following the withdrawal of U.S. forces.   One person was killed and 18 injured, including 6 Iraqi soldiers, during a conflict that occurred with the Iraqi forces a few months ago, while Mujahidi Khalq announced that 9 of its members were killed due to an Iraqi forces attack against them.   Last month, Al-Iraqiya bloc stated that “the activities of the Iraqi government against Ashraf Camp residents contravene international human rights laws,” calling on “the United Nations and the Security Council to intervene to protect Iranian refugees.”   On the other hand, MPs of the main three political blocs agreed to the necessity to solve Mujahidi Khalq question through the Iraqi constitution, coordination pro-Mujahidi Khalq organization in accordance with international accords, and rejection of anti-human practices.   Baaquba, the center of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of the capital, Baghdad.
