Ukaily’s resignation upon political pressures – Parliamentary Integrity Commission

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Parliamentary Integrity Commission member Othman al-Juhaishi announced today that the resignation of judge Raheem Ukaily was due to political pressures to “cover” some corruption dossiers connected with their peoples, pointing out that Ukaily issued two arrest warrants against two ministers and prevented some high ranking officials from leaving the country, which led to “political apprehensions”.   Juhaishi told IraqiNews.com that the resignation was due to political pressures, due Judge Ukaily‘s courageous stands.   Ukaily resigned last Thursday upon political pressures, who charged them to cover money embezzlements, as reported by mass media.   Premier Nouri al-Maliki stated to a TV channel that the Integrity Commission failed to counter corruption.    Juhaishi added that Ukaily’s  post is still under the control of the cabinet.   Dawa party sources said, earlier, that Premier Maliki had the intention to replace Ukaily with another party member called Ala’ al-Sa’idi, at a time Ukaily announced that Iraq is passing through a dangerous corruption era, characterized with more than 500 director generals are accused of corruption cases.
