Ninth Festival to commemorate Great Arab Poet Mutanabi opens in Wassit

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: The activities of the 9 th Festival to commemorate the Great Arab Poet, Abul-Tayib al-Mutanabi, was opened Thursday in Nu’maniya township in Wassit Province , where his tomb exists.   Member of the Festival’s Preparatory Committee, Haidar Jassim, said on Wednesday that a large number of poets have arrived in Wassit Province to attend the festival.   The festival is attended by about 40 poets, writers and critics, among them 10 poets from Wassit Province .   The previous Mutanabi’s festivals, that took place in Wassit Province , were held for 2 to 3 days in Nu’maniya township, where his tomb exists, covering poetry reading and symposiums held on the occasion to discuss the poem of Abul-Tayib al-Mutanabi and his personality.   The city of Kut , the center of Wassit Province , is 180 km to the northeast of Baghdad .   SKH (IT) 175
