Zebari discusses with U.N. official Aug. 19 attacks

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq‘s Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari discussed with Lynn Pascoe, Under Secretary General for Political Affairs, Iraq‘s request to name a high-level official to investigate the bloody bombings that took place on August 19, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. “Zebari and his accompanying delegation held a meeting on Tuesday (Sept. 29) with Pascoe, with whom they discussed Iraq‘s request to name a high-level official to investigate the last month attacks and to assess the extent of foreign interference in Iraq‘s affairs,” said the statement received by Iraqi News. Zebari discussed the Iraqi diplomatic move to end the provisions of Chapter VII and the efforts made to achieve this task and the need for the support from the United States and the permanent Security Council members to speed up the process of restoring Iraq to its international status and legal rights. “The general secretariat will consider the Iraqi request with the U.N. Security Council‘s members as well as with legal experts,” the statement quoted Pascoe as saying. SH (P) 1
