No discussion in parliament on US trainers – MP
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A National Alliance MP said today that the Parliament had not placed the question on U.S.trainers up for debate.Rather, it was discussed in the political blocs’ meeting last week. MP Ali al-Shalah told IraqiNews.com that what was agreed upon was for for the U.S.trainers to stay without immunity. “We have agreed that immunity will not be granted, although the U.S.side disagrees with this position,” he added. “The choice is ours to find an alternate solution for training Iraqi forces,” he noted. Sadrist Trend MP Maha al-Douri said last Saturday that “there are political wills behind the abrogation of U.S.trainers and their immunities,” pointing out “the parliament is trying to evade issuing a resolution on this subject.” Iraqi political blocs agreed last week to the stay of U.S.trainers without immunity, which had been demanded by the United States. According to the signed agreement between Baghdad and Washington in 2008, the U.S.forces should withdraw by the end of this year. RM (TI)/SR Number of Reads:147
