Details of demarcation lines with Iran needed – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Middle Alliance MP Khalid al-Alwani called on the committee entrusted with border demarcations with Iran to expose the details in order to preserve Iraqi rights in its territories. In a statement, received by IraqiNews.com, he added that “the border demarcation with neighboring countries has greater importance because it is connected with complicated matters that stir concern among the parties, especially on the question of national sovereignty. A member of the Parliamentary Integrity Commission called for inviting the committee to answer questions on Iraqi preservation of its historical geographical borders. Alwani demanded full knowledge of the maps, pointing out the Iraqi ambassador to Tehran statement that 70 percent of the demarcations were finished, which matter “needs clarification particularly on Shatt al-Arab waterway.” Earlier, the Iraqi ambassador to Iran announced completing 70 percent of the demarcation of the borders, pointing out the difference is centered on the Thalwig line, which is the deepest point in Shatt al-Arab waterway.
