URGENT / Turkish forces crosses Iraq’s Kurdistan borders

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: Turkish armed forces have crossed 6 km into northern Iraq‘s Kurdistan Region’s borders, a border guards’ source stated on Tuesday. “Turkish forces have entered the borders into Kurdistan Region and are stationed in Awra village of Barwary-Bara, east of the Zakhu township, 6 km away from the Turkish borders,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. The source did not define the number of the said Turkish forces, but confirmed that “the Iraqi government has been informed with the development.” The said village is a mountainous village that is inhabited by its citizens. Reuters News Agency had reported on Monday that Turkish tanks and armors have entered northern Iraq, on their way for a camp, where members of the anti-Ankara Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) take refuge, in an area about 20 km away from the Khabour Border area, not far from the city of Zakhu. Noteworthy is that the border areas of Iraqi Kurdistan Region have become targets for Turkish and Iranian raids, targeted against the anti-Ankara PKK forces and the anti-Tehran PJAK forces, taking refuge in those areas. The attacks have killed and injured dozens of villagers in those areas, along with severe damage caused to their houses and farms. SKH (TS)/SR 125
