Legislature demands counting security contractors protecting US Embassy in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Legislature of the so-called White al-Iraqiya Bloc in the Iraqi Parliament, Aliya Nuseif, has demanded the Iraqi government to carry out a complete account for security contractors, in charge of protecting the American Embassy in Baghdad. “Iraq of 2012 shall be cifferent than the previous years, as its doors are no longer open before whoever wishes to enter the country, under any name, and without knowing the foreign intelligence agency he belongs to and who had sent him and who he it would protect,” Nuseif said in a statement, copy of which landed in IraqiNews.com news agency. “It is necessary to carry out a complete counting for the contractors, in charge for the protection of the US Embassy in Baghdad, along with the total number of the Embassy’s staff, in order to know the real size of the Embassy and whether Iraq‘s regulations allow the establishment of an embassy with such a large size,” Nuseif said. Noteworthy is that the United States had announced on April 25th last that its Embassy in Baghdad would comprise 16,000 persons, including diplomats and workers, after the withdrawal of its forces from Iraq, confirming that it would increase the number of Iraqi workers in the Embassy. The Security Agreement, signed between Baghdad and Washington at the end of November, 2008, had confirmed that all US troops would withdraw from all Iraqi territories, waters and airspaces, at a time not exceeding Dec.31, 2011.
