Iraqiya denies divisions within its ranks – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Al-Iraqiya Bloc MP Khalid Al-Alwani today confirmed the unity of the Bloc in its leaderships, parliamentarians and minister, negating all statements reporting alleged divisions within the bloc, despite the declarations of some of its members leaving its ranks. Alwani told IraqiNews.com in a press statement that “the withdrawal of one or two of Iraqiya members does not affect its march and method”. “History will expose them in the coming days, as has happened in the past”, he stressed. Yesterday, Babil Iraqiya MP Iskander Witwit announced the withdrawal of his bloc from al-Iraqiya Bloc, due to the “deviation of some Iraqiya leaders from the national project”. In Basra, Wifaq Movement spokesman announced that most of its members submitted their resignation due to “negligence” by their leadership. He added that 42 of its members resigned representing the leadership and base of the Movement in the province. In Najaf, Wifaq movement announced its withdrawal for the same reasons, which was preceded by Thi Qar Movement which withdrew on 26 December last protesting against “negligence and sectarianism”, as described by them. Wifaq Movement, headed by Iyad Alawi, accused the renegades of cooperating with “influential” political circles and “taking advantage of the present situation of the country”. RM (TR)/SR 207
