3 wanted persons arrested in Wassit
WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: Wassit police forces were able to arrest three wanted people who were planning to attack the pilgrims heading to Karbala province. Commander of Wassit Police Forces General Hussein abdul Hadi told IraqiNews.com that “the forces were able to arrest three people who were wanted in Suwaira areas, 135 km north of Kut city”. “The arrest was made through intelligence information, where the three confessed they were planning to attacks against the pilgrims in the same area connecting Wassit with Babel provinces”, he elaborated. Commander of Mid Euphrates Operations Staff General Othman al-Ghanimi announced on 25 December last the implementation of security plan on this religious occasion with the participation of 23,000 security members from Wassit, 35,000 members in Karbala and 30,000 members in Najaf provinces. Shiite Muslims commemorate the occasion of 40th day visit following the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, grandson of Prophet Mohammed, in 61 Hijri. Kut, center of Wassit province, lies 180 km south of the capital, Baghdad. 874
