Iranians buy US dollars from Iraqi market at borders

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: Thousands of Iranians poured into the Zurbatia border vent with the province to buy US dollars from Iraqi merchants, a Wassit Province official said today. The source told IraqiNews.com that the buying campaign came after the deterioration of the Iranian currency. The source added that the Central Bank of Iraq witnessed greater purchasing demand on the US dollar during the last two days, following the sanctions imposed against the Iranian government. The US and European Union imposed economic sanctions against Iran and some of its prominent personalities, including the sanctions against importing the Iranian oil. Iran threatened to close Hormuz Strats in an attempt to exert pressures against the United States. Kut, the center of Wassit, lies 180 km south east of the capital, Baghdad. RM (TS)/SR 2333
