Iraq built strong human rights network – Minister

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Minister of Human Rights Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani said today that the burden of the former regime and its impact on human rights necessitates international assistance to Iraq. “Over the past years, Iraq has worked to build a strong human rights network and started a strategy to minimize poverty, help women to develop their status, countering violence and combating unemployment,” he noted. “Iraq needs international assistance to help the increasing terrorism and subsequent victims in the country,” Sudani said during the 19th session of Human Rights Council held in Geneva on 27 February. In the field of cooperation with the United Nations, he added that “Iraq received the delegation connected with the question of mercenaries and will receive another delegation connected with torture.” The minister elaborated that Iraq has begun implementing strategies to minimize poverty, development of women status and limitation of unemployment. He praised the role of the United Nations and its agencies which resulted, among others, in signing an agreement to end the presence of Iranian Mujahidi Khalq organization and move those to a third country according to UN human rights standards.
