MP demands Cabinet with Basra people’s rights

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A State of Law Coalition’s MP demanded the Cabinet to push the oil companies which work in Basra province to hire the people of Basra within its cadres.

MP Abdul Salam al-Maliki reported in statement to IraqiNews.com that “The contracts and the oil licenses of the Oil Companies in Basra province caused huge damages to the farmlands in the province which forces the oil companies to pay financial compensations to the people who own these lands without considering the justice and fairness in distributing these compensations.”

The statement added that “There are more than 200,000 unemployed persons in Basra because the oil companies brought its workers from outside the province.”

He demanded the Cabinet to “To make the Ministry of Oil, which represents the contracted authority with the oil companies, push on the companies to appoint the residents of the province.”

MP al-Maliki demanded the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee to “Investigate the identity cards of the workers of the foreign companies in the province.”

Al-Maliki demanded the Parliamentary Energy Committee to “Urge and warn the oil companies concerning appointing the people of the province and not to sabotage the farmland as well as compensating those who were affected by the actions by these companies.”
