Nijaifi, Shibibi discuss developing CBI’s performance

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Osama al-Nijaifi reiterated his emphasize over the parliament’s support for the full independence of the Central Bank of Iraq, as stipulated in the provisions of the Constitution and the law of the Central Bank of Iraq, stressing at the same time, “the Council’s rejection for any kind of interference in the work of this institution.”

A statement by Nijaifi’s office received by Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) today said that “Nijaifi received today the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq Sinan al- Shibibi and emphasized during the meeting, the need for continuous coordination between the CBI and the relevant parliamentary committees in order to find solutions to the problems that plagued Iraq in the areas of monetary policy and banking.”

“The two sides also discussed the exchange rates of currencies and how to stabilize the national currency in order to revive the economic situation of the country,” the statement added.

Iraqi market witnesses significantly rise once in a while in the exchange rate of the US dollar against the Iraqi dinar.

As announced the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers formed under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Ruz Nouri Shawis, the membership of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Hussein al-Shahristani , members of the Committee on Economic Affairs and the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers [Ali Al-Allaq] to study the fluctuation of the exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar recently, in addition to suggesting appropriate solutions and prevent damaging the national economy.
