Kinani: Political blocs show concerns over seriousness to conduct local elections

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Amir al-Kinani, of the Ahrar bloc within the Iraqi National Alliance stated that “The political blocs show concerns over the government seriousness to conduct the provincial elections.”

Speaking to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) on Tuesday, he stated “The government does not adhere towards the estimated time of holding the provincial councils’ elections or forming the specialized committees,” ruling out “Having an intention of the government for holding the elections because the last elections were conducted four years ago and they must be done within six months after the end of this period.”

“The period necessary for holding the Provincial Elections is about nine months in coordination with the Government,” he added, noting that “The date for holding these elections should be determined by the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki.”

“The government did not inform the employees of the Independent High Electoral Commission about holding the local elections yet,” he concluded.
