Wassit (IraqiNews.com) The Minister of Tourism and Antiques, Lewa’ Smaisem, visited Wassit province and said that “Wassit is considered an important source for antiques smuggling.”
IraqiNews.com correspondent reported, today, Wednesday “The Minister of Tourism visited Wassit province, Wednesday, and observed the ancient sites there,” noting that “The Minister stressed during his meeting with the Tourism and Antiques Department and a number of officials that Wassit is one of the important archeological sites, however it is neglected in the tourism field.”
It is mentioned that Wassit (180 KM) to south of Baghdad, contains more than 400 ancient sites, most of them are still undiscovered, these places have been exposed to sabotage and random bulldozing especially after 2003, at a time the government did not pay attention to these sites in providing
